First off if your going to judge me in any shape or form you can stop reading now.
I am his mother I know what best for him and I want to help my son the best way I know how.
Today was Zackariah's 3 year check-up. Zack has had a rough time. His Birth was in the middle of hurricane Katrina and the last few weeks of my pregnancy I was very stressed as to the first 6 months of his life. Once life finally calmed down he came down with RSV and was in the hospital for days for that. Then he had reflux which I knew he had, but the doctor I had at the time told me I was wrong he lost weight I wanted to breastfeed him, but the doctor finally convinced me that he wasn't do well being breastfed and told me it had to be my milk I wondered with all the stress I was under if she could be right so I quit his reflux got worst he went under lots of test where I was told the next step was a genetic doctor. I got to the point where I had enough of my son being a test subject and I switched doctors and he knew right away my son had reflux, but since he went 10 months with out treatment he was very thin and malnourished. He was put on meds and put on pounds he each to catch up, but developmental he was behind for some time and still is in some areas. once he caught up in some area's as far as walking and all go he was a handful. Everyone joked he was making up for lost time. He alone became a full time job and that wasn't possible with 4 other children. We waited until right before his 3rd Birthday before we brought it up to see if it was just the "terrible two's" I knew in my heart it wasn't. from the time he was 6 months old he jumped in his jumperoo like there was no tomorrow. once he walked we couldn't keep up with him. We would try our best, but when it became too much and we feared for his safety we would have to put him in a stroller. We asked many people when he was two about him, there was alot of ..."oh he just a boy or he just two" I knew it wasn't that and hear my concerned being dismissed made me sick to my stomach then when we moved here closer to his 3rd Birthday everyone started to agree with us. My family would ask why is he like that ? and when we brought him to see Dr. C and took him to be tested and his speech Therapist all agree it not just for a few minutes it all day long everyday and it wasn't progressing in speech or anything else. Dr. C Agree to try him on some medicine after his 3rd birthday which he started on. The change in my child was like nothing I had ever seen before. I have 2 others with ADHD but each child with it is different. He was asking questions "what is that" he was having quite play blocks, books, cars, things that he can push. Before his medicine I couldn't tell you what he like to do other than run us around and destroy things my whole life was cleaning up what he destroyed and trying to stay one step ahead of him be he was always 5 steps ahead of that. now I can tell you he like blocks, He like books, cars things he can push around and he turning into a real boy !! geeze it sounds like a line from Pinocchio, but it's true Dr. C was total amazed with the boy we brought in today he wasn't in a stroller in fear he run away and get hurt. he walked with us and Dr. C explained his brain like a pin ball machine always going his last visit with Dr. C we were blocking the door he was on the table tear the paper up scream jumping around like there was no tomorrow I was horrified and Dr. C and both Darin and I all left there feeling like we needed a drink or something ! Dr. C said if he ever saw a text book case Zackariah was one. Now why do all my boys have it ? I don't know I know it is more common in boys than girls and it could be something genetic I'm a girl and the only child from my mother and father and back when my parents were kids it wasn't something that was common to DX so maybe I carried the gene for it ? Maybe my husband had and didn't know I really don't know. I have tried other methods before going right to the medicines we took all red dye out of his diet the whole family really. We cut most sugar out nothing seems to help. I'm grateful we live in a time where my son can be helped and I think this is something he truly needed yes he is young to be DX with this but it something that when they have it you know and I have known in my heart for sometime now I just hoped he outgrow it and he didn't have it but after trying it for 2 weeks I can see the difference it has made. Other people have even made comments with out know he was on medicine how well behaved and how he was sitting still and playing ect. I proud to have a loving little boy in my life and i hope the doctor is right and he will now progress in learning now that we got him the help he so badly needed. Also he is 26 lbs and 2'11" he small but not too small the doctor said he is in the 5% which is perfectly normal for my children none of them are huge. Emmaleigh is only 17 lbs 3oz and she is 14 mths old. Isabella is 40lbs and she is 5 yrs old. The older boys are around 45-50 lbs and they are 7 & 8. I happy to see my crazy little boy went from a ping pong ball to a more organized little boy !
